However, at its pricey $79 (MSRP), (check current pricing) it is nearly twice the cost of others with similar features. The VX Revolution's coolest features include the new frictionless scroll wheel. Give it a spin and it will go for about 7-10 spins, allowing you to run down a page very quickly. (or back up to the top) Keep flicking that wheel and you feel like you're speeding around a NASCAR track. A switch on the bottom of the mouse allows you to switch between the standard 'ratchet style' of scrolling or the 'free spin.' The VX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks is a tad larger than most notebook mice but not quite as large as a standard desktop mouse. The VX Revolution features quick response, high-precision laser tracking, and a nifty LED battery meter to tell you how much power you have left as well as an on/off indicator light. Logitech says the mouse will run for 120 days on a single AA battery. The one we tested started out saying we had 120 days remaining of battery life. After two days of use, it was down to 100 days. Though we must admit that we use the computer all day five days a week. The zoom button on the left side under your index finger was somewhat awkward to use because of its proximity to the forward/back buttons, and you could very easily get zoom out instead of zoom in because of the placement. The same applies to the forward/back buttons. Unlike the MX310 that we've used for a couple of years, the forward/back buttons are one in front of the other rather than on the left and right sides of the mouse. More often than not we pressed back when we intended to press forward and vice-versa. The top button behind the wheel offers up a search engine with just one click. Some might enjoy that, but we wanted to use that button for paste and the wheel button for copy. As a result we had no choice but to install the Setpoint Software. You don't need to use the Setpoint software that comes with the VX Revolution, unless you intend to change the buttons assignment. We discovered on our Toshiba 17" notebook that Setpoint shuts off the Dritek Easy Button software. That's a feature of the Toshiba that we use more than frequently. That conflict also caused the mouse wheel to not work properly all of the time. Bottom line: If you have a Toshiba laptop/notebook with hot keys that use Dritek's Easy Button, be prepared to use this mouse without the ability to reprogram the buttons and do not install the setpoint software. Setpoint is needed only to program the buttons. Other than that we found it to be an outstanding mouse. Pros: The free wheeling wheel spins through long documents quickly. The receiver has very good range. The mouse itself is large enough to fit the hand quite well, while still being portable for your laptop. The buttons are programmable. There's a battery meter, and the receiver stores inside the mouse. Good precision on many surfaces with Laser tracking. CONS: This mouse is very pricey when compared to others with similar features. Setpoint software shuts off Dritek Easy Button software on Toshiba laptops.
